Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Indonesia has not reached 80%. Breastfeeding has only reached 37.3%, partial breastfeeding 9.3% and predominant breastfeeding 3.3%. Exclusive breastfeeding has benefits for infant motor development. Zinc (Zn) content in breast milk is needed in the process of infant growth and development, for example, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, language and speech skills, as well as socialization and independence skills. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of breast milk and breast milk substitutes (PASI) on infant motor development in Lae Mate Village, Rundeng District. In this study, the design used was comparative with a cross-sectional approach. The respondents of this study were 92 respondents, with a total sampling method. Breast milk and PASI data were taken using a questionnaire, while infant development was obtained using the KPSP form. The analysis used was Mann Whitney U. The results of the bivariate study showed that the median of the ASI group was 9 with a minimum value of 7 and a maximum value of 10. While the PASI group had a median value of 7 with a minimum value of 6 and a maximum of 10, the average ranking of the ASI group was 66.50 higher than the PASI group with a value of 33.05 and a p-value of 0.000. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that giving ASI is better than giving PASI to babies aged 0-6 months in terms of motor development. Thus, the hope for parents is to pay more attention to giving Exclusive ASI.
